April 19-20: Austin, TX

Austin was a wonderful city. Very eclectic and very friendly. On my day off I reunited with a high school friend I had not see in thirty years. Yes a little reminiscing, but mostly a lot of catching up to where we are now. Randy has also become an avid cyclist so there was a lot of gear and cycling talk as he took me around the city. We stopped by Mellow Johnny's bike shop (Lance Armstrong's hangout), toured the Bullock Museum of Texas History, ate food of course, toured the statehouse, visited the Lookout 360 cliffs that overlook the river (although it is called a lake), saw many perspectives of the Austin skyline from parks and bridges, and topped off the day with a visit to the congress street bridge to view the bats of Austin on their dusk flight into the night (1/2 million bats live in the expansion joints).

Randy has since joined Adventure Cycling Association and has his eye on the Pacific Coast as his first tour.
