May 6, Pensacola, FL - 67 Miles

Spectacular white sand beaches, tailwinds, and sunny weather were the norms for riding today. The started with a ferry ride from Dauphin Island to Fort Morgan. We then rode along the Gulf of Mexico today for more than 40 miles before turning north to pensacola and our motel for the evening. The first thirty miles were along the Alabama coastline. Many stopped for a dip or two during the day with one exception. Malte spent two hours on the beaches instead of opting for the National Naval Air Museum. We crossed until our final state today... Florida. It is a huge milestone for us all as we now realize there is and end to our long journey. We are a bit melancholy at times. There was a bar at the Alabama / Florida border called FloBama. Apparently they had great margaritas.

"The best air museum I have seen in a very long" commented one of the riders about the Pensacola Naval Air Station Museum actually called the National Naval Air Museum. Many others also agreed with his assessment.

Our first alligator encounter was today. Joe says the trip is complete for him since he spotted the large reptilian. He was at a local cafe when people gathered by the side of the road to gawk at something at the side of the road.

Thelma and I enjoyed a nice, lazy breakfast at our favorite hangout today... IHOP. You gotta love those blueberry pancakes.
